CBA Martin Place, Sydney
Commonwealth Bank, Martin Place
Affectionately known as the Money Box, 5 Martin Place is one of Sydney’s most iconic heritage listed sandstone buildings. Built in 1913 to house the headquarters of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the building was one of the most modern banking establishments in the world, and among the very first to use the technologically advanced structural steel frame system in its construction.
With nine floors added to the side of the heritage building that runs down Martin Place and around the corner in Pitt Street, the completed redesign of the Money Box showcases a unique combination of original heritage grandeur with ultra-modern glass features.
G.James was involved with the upgrade of the ground floor internal partitions consisting of 368m2 of 13.52mm Low Iron ToughLam with Frit and Bronze Mirror.
