Westfield Miranda

Westfield Miranda Redevelopment

Westfield Miranda, the largest shopping centre in Sydney’s south, has recently undergone a $435 million redevelopment, which will act as a blueprint for all future Westfield projects.

G.James’ task was to provide and install 306 glass louvres manufactured from 13.52mm HL119 ToughLam. The louvres create a light filled space throughout the year with ventilation in the warmer months.

Along with the opening of international clothing brands and smaller anchor department stores, the redevelopment places a greater emphasis on fresh food and entertainment with a multi-screen event cinema now added. The project also includes the addition of more than 100 specialty retailers.

CBA Martin Place, Sydney

Commonwealth Bank, Martin Place

Affectionately known as the Money Box, 5 Martin Place is one of Sydney’s most iconic heritage listed sandstone buildings. Built in 1913 to house the headquarters of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the building was one of the most modern banking establishments in the world, and among the very first to use the technologically advanced structural steel frame system in its construction.

With nine floors added to the side of the heritage building that runs down Martin Place and around the corner in Pitt Street, the completed redesign of the Money Box showcases a unique combination of original heritage grandeur with ultra-modern glass features.

G.James was involved with the upgrade of the ground floor internal partitions consisting of 368m2 of 13.52mm Low Iron ToughLam with Frit and Bronze Mirror.

Overseas Passenger Terminal Upgrade

Bon voyage

Sydney Ports recently completed the second of two major projects to upgrade the iconic Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) at Circular Quay.

The project involved extending the wharf by almost 60m to more safely accommodate some of the world’s largest cruise ships. The extension of the wharf eliminates the need for the larger ships to use temporary anchors submerged in Campbell’s Cove.

G.James provided the glass and installation for the south, east and west façades of the passenger terminal, including a lift shaft, external balustrades, travelator and skylights. One of the key architectural features is on level 3 deck with its stunning overhead glazing and lift awning. The glass products featured over 2900m² Low E ToughLam, Low Iron ToughLam and Clear ToughLam.

Acland Street Renewal

St Kilda’s vibrant Acland Street precinct recently received a fabulous streetscape upgrade

Port Phillip Council approved plans to transform Acland Street with a lively public plaza and a ‘promenade’ atmosphere to encourage pedestrians to stroll along the iconic shopping, dining and entertainment destination. The upgrade also allows for the seamless integration of Public Transport Victoria’s (PTV) upgraded level-access Acland Street tram terminus.

G.James supplied the glass for 14 custom tram shelters, each constructed of 16 overhead glazed panels – a total of 224 shaped panels, 1800mm x 700mm. The glass type used was 13.52mm ToughLam Graphic Custom Laminate.

The newly established pedestrian plaza provides 30% more open public space that is more accessible for those with accessibility requirements, meaning more people can visit and enjoy the iconic shopping street than ever before.
